The DC DanceSport Academy
Youth Ballroom - Rules and Policies

1. Safety is first and foremost.
No running, rough play, or any other kind of behavior that can or may result
in injury will be allowed in any studio at any time.

2. Proper attire is required from all students to attend class.
Dress Code is as follows, no exceptions.

For Classes: We like to introduce our students to grace and style, not only in movement, but in their appearance as well. Please note, that NO JEANS are allowed at any time on the dance floor during classes.

Boys: A Button Shirt, A Tie (any color,) Black Slacks, Black Socks
Girls: A Leotard, A Skirt (Knee Length or Below, Not too long), White socks or Tights
Shoes: Each student must have a pair of shoes he/she brings for each class. Regular sport shoes or sneakers will not be allowed. We strongly encourage parents to purchase specialized ballroom dance shoes for their children. On your first day of class we will provide some helpful information about what you can buy and where you can buy it.
Hair: Must be put up in a neat, elegant and appropriate manner (but no “competition” hairstyle please).

For Competitions: Each student must have his/her own competition outfit or dress that complies with all the norms and requirements for junior dancers. Please consult your instructor prior to purchasing a costume. We are always happy to advise you in this matter.

For Shows: Each student will also need an additional costume for show performances. We will provide you with additional information on these costumes later.

Team Sport Suit: We also suggest purchasing a “team sport suit” to be used before and after competitions and shows. These sport suits are comfortable and warm and are commonly used by professional dancers everywhere. In addition, having identical suits for younger children will help the parents to identify the team and team members in crowded areas. Team suits will be available for purchase upon request.

3. Students are to conduct themselves in a respectful manner.
Students who are disruptive or disrespectful in class to the teacher or to other students will be given a warning to stop. If the problem continues, the student may be asked to sit to the side. If the behavior continues after rejoining the class, the teacher may remove the student from class and the student's parents will be notified.

4. Youth Ballroom is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

5. Practice Time is a Privilege.
Students may practice at the studio for 15 minutes - provided there is floor space available – as long as they are quiet, adhere to dress codes, respect other dancers and classes going on, and clean up after themselves. Students may not play music if other classes are going on. If students continue to practice past the approved 15 minute time frame, they will be responsible for paying the practice floor fee to the studio.

6. Parents should drop off and pick up their children near the start and/or finish of classes.

7. All parent-teacher meetings must be scheduled in advance.
Although we are pleased to discuss your child's progress with you, there is not sufficient time between classes for the teacher to meet with parents and prepare for the next class. You may always contact Lydia Petrigova by phone or by e-mail when provided.
