Kids Dance Classes

DC Dancesport Academy offers elite-level dance training and education to children between the ages of 5 and 7, children between the ages of 8 and 11, and adolescents age 12 and above.

These classes give children the opportunity for a full-body exercise and the ability to build confidence, physical strength, flexibility, grace, and social skills.

KIDS BALLROOM OPEN HOUSE

We’re excited to invite you and your child to our Kids Ballroom Open House this Sunday at DC DanceSport Academy!

Admission is FREE! Pre-registration is highly recommended to help us prepare for your child and organize the groups appropriately.

Join us for a fun afternoon of movement, music, and dance, where children can meet our teachers, experience different styles of ballroom dancing, and discover the joy of dancing in a welcoming and encouraging environment.

3:00–4:30 PM Open House Program
4:30–5:00 PM Meet the Teachers & Explore Our Programs

During the afternoon, children will experience creative movement and musicality, Cha-Cha, Samba, Tango, and a fun dance-together finale. They’ll also have a chance to watch some of our young dancers perform!

No previous dance experience is necessary.

MAKE-UP CLASS POLICY
If your child will be missing a class, please tell our staff in advance through email at least 24 hours in advance, and from there, we will pre-arrange a suitable make-up class for your child. No drop-in make-up classes are allowed. To view our full make-up class procedures and policies, please contact our studio.

ANNUAL REGISTRATION FEE
Annual Registration Fee for one student- $35 (non-refundable)

*The studio reserves the right to cancel any scheduled class session with less than four students in attendance and to change the space availability in either Monday, Tuesday, or Saturday classes based on student enrollments.

Kids Dance Classes

For over a decade, DC DanceSport Academy has been where dancers of every age fall in love with movement — from a toddler’s first shuffle to a competitor’s final polish before the ballroom floor. We don’t just teach steps. We build coordination, discipline, confidence, and genuine joy, one class at a time — and we’ve watched that foundation carry students from their very first Teddy Bear class all the way to the competition stage.

Teddy Bear Dance (Ages under 5)

Our sweetest class for our tiniest dancers! Through playful steps, music, and movement games, children build coordination, rhythm, and early discipline in a warm, encouraging environment. Beyond the physical skills, this class nurtures confidence and connection — parents often notice a joyful, proud glow in their little one after class, the first spark of a lifelong love for dance.

Little Stars (Ages under 7)

An introduction to Waltz, Tango, Cha Cha, Samba, and Jive, designed to build coordination, rhythm, and posture through playful, age-appropriate teaching. Students explore a variety of dance styles in a supportive setting that keeps learning fun while laying a real technical foundation.

Rising Stars (Ages 8–12)

Students train across seven dances — Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, and Jive — building strong technique, timing, and confidence. The goal is a well-rounded, beautifully coordinated dancer; those who wish may take their training further into competition.

Advanced Ballroom (By Invitation Only — Level-Based, All Ages)

For experienced dancers approved by their instructor, grouped by skill level rather than age. Students refine all five International Standard dances — Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quickstep — with an emphasis on partnering, precision, and performance-level execution. Most dancers at this level supplement training with private lessons, and are encouraged to compete at least three times a year.

Advanced Latin (By Invitation Only — Level-Based, All Ages)

For experienced dancers approved by their instructor, grouped by skill level rather than age. Covers all International Latin dances — Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive — with a focus on precise technique, speed, and expression. Most dancers at this level supplement training with private lessons, and are encouraged to compete at least three times a year.

Showdance Choreography (Open to All, Ages 8+)

No ballroom background required — just a willingness to learn and move. Students build original choreography set to fun, modern music trending on TikTok and Instagram, developing musical interpretation, stage presence, and coordination. Performed at our showcases and available for competition for those who wish.
